New officials declare Tupi under state of calamity

Severely hit by a series of disasters, tornado, flashfloods and dengue, the newly set of officials here in its inaugural session, Wednesday, July 7, declared Tupi under the state of calamity. Local authorities estimated the cost of damaged to over P6.5 million pesos.

The declaration came after the report on the extreme increase of dengue cases in the municipality. Patients with dengue had caused the over-crowding of the Roel I. Senador Memorial Hospital (RISMH) here, depleting the limited supplies of medicines.
RISMH is an 18 bed capacity hospital but as of this writing it is serving over 80 in-patients, mostly victims of dengue.

The Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council (MDCC) estimated the damage brought by tornado and flashfloods to P6, 786,000.00 affecting 109 farmers of Barangay Palian, Cr. Rubber, Bololmala and Kalkam.

Said barangays earlier declared under the state of calamity by their respective sanggunian.
