South Cotabato gears up for its 45th founding anniversary and 12th T’nalak celebration

South Cotabato government is gearing up for its 45th Foundation Anniversary and  12th  T’nalak Festival celebration as the province is now preparing  numerous activities to highlight the week-long festivities on July 12 -18, 2011.

Provincial Administrator Isidro Janita, Executive Director for T'nalak Festival 2011, announced that the province has earmarked some P7.6 million to make the celebration colorful and grand.

“Our people will enjoy our festival this year as it will NOT ONLY be held in Koronadal but also in some parts of the province,”  Janita said.

He disclosed  that events such as the motorcross will be held at Cannery Site, Polomolok; Argo-Industrial Fair 2011  at the municipality of Tupi; Seket Kuda or horse fighting  at Poblacion, Lake Sebu; and airsoft competition at the municipality of Surallah.

“We will evaluate if the people will accept the change. If it will be succesful this year, we will continue holding some events to other municipalities,”  He said.

South Cotabato Governor Arthur Y. Pingoy Jr. wants other events be held in other municipalities to make them feel that the festival is province-wide and not only concentrated in the City of Koronadal, the province’s business hub.

New events to look up to this year will be the mass demonstration and the showcase of the Tagum City brass band during the T’nalak Festival Opening on  July 13; the photographers workshop; photo competition and exhibit, South Cotabato cavalcade of songs and dance; indoor and outdoor sports events; and the hiphop and team ballroom competition.

Visitors and spectators will still enjoy the regional trade expo at the ProTech Center; battle of the bands and beerfest; cheerdance competition; Mutya ng South Cotabato; 'disco sa kalye'; the Balikbayan Night; and the T’nalak parade and streetdance showdown and competitions featuring the Madal Be’Lan, Kadsagayan A Lalan and the Kasadyahan sa Kapatagan.

Other pre-T’nalak and continuing events also include the 2011 Mindanao Open Tae Kwondo Championship and Gov. “Dodo” Pingoy Tae Kwondo Cup; airsoft competition; bahay-kubo competition, Marbel practical shooting association, among others.

Invited guest to highlight the opening ceremony is Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia who has already confirmed attendance. The Office of the Governor is currently establishing contact with DSWD Secretary Dinky Soliman to grace the closing ceremony.

This year’s theme is “ One Extraordinary Province, One Unforgettable Experience”. (PIO South Cotabato)
