“The place is very beautiful, food are so good, and the people are very nice to us, they always smile, very welcoming and always make us feel comfortable, the people here are the friendliest people in the world,” this was the answer of Mr. Ananda Marasinghe one of the delegates from Sri Lanka to the recently concluded Koronadal International Folklore Festival when asked to describe Koronadal, South Cotabato and the people.
On August 17, the delegations from Sri Lanka and the Bukidnon State University Dance Group were brought to the Blaan cultural village in Brgy. Assumption, City of Koronadal where they experienced the hospitality of the Blaan tribe. They were welcomed with a feast, tribal songs and dances.
In his speech, Marasinghe, who heads the delegation from Sri Lanka said that they felt "at home” while in Koronadal. He also thanked Koronadal City Mayor Peter B. Miguel for all the arrangements that he had made to make their stay comfortable, and encouraged the Blaan community to be proud of who they are.
“It was my first time in your place, and I just love everything here,” another participant answered.
Locally dubbed as Pyesta Kolon Datal, the Koronadal International Folklore Festival which was held from August 10-18 gathered at least 400 performers from 9 countries including 7 cultural groups from different parts of the Philippines.
