Desperate Attacks Fail: Ogena Dominates, Gumbao Plunges in Latest Survey

Mayoral candidate Kap Yan Yan Gumbao’s survey ratings continue to plummet, dropping to 31.6% in the latest local survey, while incumbent Mayor Eliordo “Bebot” Ogena maintains a commanding lead at 66.3%.

Political observers attribute Gumbao’s declining numbers to several key factors—primarily, his failure to present a clear and compelling platform that can rival the proven programs and performance of Mayor Ogena. Instead, his camp has resorted to personal attacks, including raising concerns about the mayor’s health.

However, these efforts appear to have backfired. Many Koronadaleños view the smear tactics as signs of desperation and political weakness, believing that Gumbao’s camp is running out of relevant issues to raise.

The candidate’s association with controversial Congressman Peter Miguel is also seen as a liability. Congressman Miguel is facing public backlash for his move to sign the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte — a decision viewed by many as divisive and politically motivated and for fielding his politically inexperienced wife, Shine Miguel, in a gubernatorial bid against South Cotabato’s most trusted and popular public servant—Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr.

The survey also suggests a landslide victory in Koronadal is expected for the trio of Governor Tamayo, Congressman Ferdinand Hernandez (2nd District), and Mayor Ogena, signaling strong public confidence in their leadership and governance track record.

With the elections drawing near, the public continues to call for issue-based campaigns and honest leadership—not negativity and baseless attacks.
