His passing on June 21 was confirmed by his son, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr., in a heartfelt message posted on Facebook.
"Malungkot naming ipinapaabot sa publiko ang pagpanaw ng aming mahal na ama... Isang ama, lider, at lingkod-bayan na buong pusong nag-alay ng tama at maayos na serbisyo sa ating mga kababayan."

The wake has drawn a steady stream of mourners, with flowers and heartfelt messages symbolizing the deep respect and love of the people he served.Before serving in Congress, Cong. Tamayo Sr. held key leadership positions in the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as Regional Director of DPWH Region XII, as well as in DPWH Region II and DPWH Region XI — a testament to his long-standing dedication to public infrastructure and national development.
Fondly remembered as “Cong. Rey,” he was known for his humility, integrity, and unwavering commitment to public service, which spanned decades and impacted countless lives across the regions he served.
In this time of grief, the Tamayo family requests continued prayers and expresses sincere appreciation for the love, condolences, and support from friends, colleagues, and constituents.
