German Firm to Build ₱4.49-B Solar Power Plant in South Cotabato

German renewable energy developer ib vogt has started building a ₱4.49-billion solar power plant in Tantangan town that will produce 99 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. The project is targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2026.

The plant will generate around 150 gigawatt-hours of electricity yearly—enough to power 82,000 homes—and cut over 66,000 tons of carbon emissions annually.

Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. welcomed the investment, saying it will create jobs, boost the local economy, and promote sustainable development.

Energy Undersecretary Mylene Capongcol said the project supports the country’s goal of increasing renewable energy in the power mix to 35% by 2030.

This is ib vogt’s second solar project in South Cotabato, following its 6.5-MW plant in Surallah. The Tantangan facility will be built by its subsidiary, Apolaki Seven, Inc., with funding support from HSBC through a green loan.
