Gensan hosts Biggest Google Map Maker Summit

Participants from all over Mindanao attended the Google Map Maker Summit for Mindanao held last Saturday, April 21, 2012 at STI Campus in General Santos City. Most of them were from the cities of General Santos, Koronadal and South Cotabato province. There were also participants who drove all the way from Cotabato City, Kidapawan, Tacurong, Davao City, and Malaybalay City in Bukidnon.

The Google Map Maker Summit is aimed at helping the country's tourism and disaster preparedness through the use of Google Map Maker, a browser-based technology developed to allow users to add and update geographic information for millions of users to see in Google Maps and Google Earth. The Google Map Maker Summit was also conducted in the cities of Baguio last April 14 and Bacolod last April 12. The Mindanao leg of the summit is said to be the biggest in terms of attendance with more than 130 participants.

Among those present in the Google Map Maker Summit for Mindanao from the province of South Cotabato were Provincial Tourism Officer Cesar Sulit, Eliezer Garcia from ACTS-PPDO, Rolly Visaya of LGU-Tupi, Dominador Siloterio from LGU-T'boli and IT students from NDMU headed by Prof. Arnel Robles. Also present were Sox Bloggers from South Cotabato namely, Alexis Chua, Xyrilloid Landicho, Sheila Marie Dumalay, Lynette Gallinero and Nanardxz.

Google Southeast Asia's head of Outreach Ms. Aileen Apollo de Jesus and a team of Google Geo Advocate and Google mapping experts some of them came all the way from India and Singapore facilitated the summit.
