It's More Fun in South Cotabato Photo Contest

As our way of promoting the province, SouthCotabato.Org  and SouthCotabatoNews.Com are launching today the - IT'S MORE FUN IN SOUTH COTABATO PHOTO CONTEST.

Show the world that there's indeed a lot of  fun here in South Cotabato. To join just follow the simple rules and mechanics below.

Rules & Mechanics
  • The contest is open to all amateur and professional photographers.
  • Pick your best photos that showcases events, celebrations, tourist destinations of the province or  your greatest adventure photo here in South Cotabato and tell us a short story behind it.
  • Photos must be clear and at least medium to high resolution.
  • Photos should not include watermarks, frames, or other markings on the photo, such as the date and time of the entry.
  • Photoshop or other editing software is limited to basic post-processing actions, such as contrast, color-balancing, sharpening, cropping, burning and dodging.
  • Submit your photo entries including your name, address, age, a short photo description (story, format found below) and email to nanardxz@gmail.com.

Address: Surallah, South Cotabato
Age: 15
Story: This photo was taken last July 2011 in Lake Sebu with my friends. We had so much fun! I enjoyed the zipline and take look at the vest/harness that i'm wearing. COSPLAY. It's more fun in South Cotabato.

  • Submission of entries will start on May 28 and ends on June 9, 2012. Don't forget to drop a comment on this post using the comment box found below after you have submitted your entries.
  • There will be an online voting using Facebook “Likes”.
  • 10 winners will be announced on July 8, 2012.

40% Popularity - most number of likes. 
30% Photo Entry - clarity and relevance of the photo to the story.
30% Story Line - can catch the attention of the viewer.

Philippine Azkals to visit South Cotabato

Two members of the Philippine national football team- the Azkals, will be in South Cotabato next month reportedly to conduct a football clinic on June 14-15 at the South Cotabato Sports Complex.
AZKALS' defender Jason Sabio whose mother is from Koronadal City will be joined by Filipino-Chinese  midfielder Lexton Moy in the 2-day football clinic that is expected to teach participants the basic rules and techniques of football. 

The official website of South Cotabato reports that aside from the football clinic, the Azkals are also set to visit the town of Lake Sebu and experience Southeast Asia's highest zipline.

By the way, for those who are interested to join and become part of  the football clinic with the Azkals  registration is on-going at the  South Cotabato Sports Complex just look for Mr. Bebot Perez. Registration is FREE and yes, organizers says it's open for all ages.

SOCOTECO-1 Brownout Schedule: 10-hour Power Interruption on Saturday (May 26,2012)

South Cotabateños, mark your calendars and plan ahead.

On Saturday expect a brownout that will last up to 10 hours as announced recently by SOCOTECO-1. The power outage is for the company to facilitate Preventive Maintenance Activities of owned & maintained 69kV line, it will run from 7am- 5pm, May 26, 2012 and will affect the entire coverage area of SOCOTECO-1.

Socoteco-I covers the municipalities of Tampakan, Tantangan, Banga, Norala, Surallah, T’boli, Sto. Nino and Lake Sebu in South Cotabato, Lutayan town in Sultan Kudarat and the City of Koronadal.

The Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) has announced that 1,995 out of 5,315 passed the Certified Public Accountant (CPA) Licensure Examination given this month in Manila, Baguio, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo and Legazpi.

Let's Map Tacurong City a success!

The SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers and this blog would like to congratulate the team of Doc Remo Aguilar of Tacurong City Online for the successful conduct of Let's Map Tacurong! A Google mapping seminar/workshop happened earlier at the Audio-visual Room of Notre Dame of Tacurong College in Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. A joint project of Google, Department of Tourism, NDTC, LGU-Tacurong City and the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers, Let's Map Tacurong gathered more than 45 participants from different sectors in the city all with the common vision of putting Tacurong City on Google Maps! Check out  below some of what happened earlier through our live blog during the event.
(May 20, 2012) Happening right now is Let's Map Tacurong, a Google Mapping Seminar/Workshop organized by Tacurong Online and the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers and is supported by the Department of Tourism, City LGU of Tacurong and Notre Dame of Tacurong College.. 


(9:00 am) Participants started to arrive at the AVR of NDTC as well as members of the SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers.. Internet connection? Very fast! :)
Let's Map Tacurong City started exactly at 9am.
(9:10 am) Program officially started with a convocation, the singing of the Philippine National Anthem then followed by a welcome address by the event's lead convenor Doc Remo Aguilar, he introduced the Sox Bloggers, then was followed by an overview of today's event by Avel Manansala, one of the founder of SOCCSKSARGEN Bloggers coming all the way from General Santos City.


-Head count! more or less 40 participants are here inside the Audio-visual room of Notre Dame of Tacurong College.


(9:30 am) Sox Blogger Alexis Chua started his lectures on "The Basics" -  how to set-up a Google account, Gmail, Google Places, etc.. Avel  and Sox bloggers started "roaming around" helping participants..


-Alexis now teaches participants how to fix an issue just like blurry imagery for Tacurong City.


- He also entertains questions being asked by participants.

(10:18 am) Electricity is back. Speedy internet connection is back as well.


(10:30 am) Travel blogger and Google Geo Advocate Berniemack Arellano now teaches participants what are the uses of Google Maps and how updated Google Maps can be of help in disaster preparedness and naming of tourist spots. Bernie who flew all the away from Iloilo City has more than 19,200+ edits on Google Map and is the man behind Habagatcentral.Com.


(11:50 am) Leading map maker for Tacurong City Christian Carillo shares how he uses his GPS-enabled mobile phone in mapping his city despite the blurry imagery. Less than a month since attending the Mindanao Google Map Makers Summit in General Santos City,  Christian already has 420+ edits on Google Map. He works at the City Planning and Development Office.


(12:00 noon) Doc Remo also shares how he make use of an app from his GPS-enabled android phone in mapping Tacurong City.


(12:35 pm) Lunch Break.. beef steak and fried chicken.. thanks Tacurong City LGU! 


(01:30 pm) Afternoon session (MapUps) started. Let's Map Tacurong City! Participants were asked to apply what they've learned in the morning sessions by mapping roads, landmarks, and other points of interests in  Tacurong City.
