GenSan’s boxing team eyes another championship tilt at the 2011 Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City

General Santos City’s boxing team is eyeing another championship tilt to the upcoming Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City after they once again romped an outstanding win at the Cotabato Regional Athletic Association (CRAA) Meet in Koronadal City.

For three consecutive years now, GenSan City won the championship tilt for the CRAA. This year, they won in all weight divisions in the secondary division which is their sure way ticket to the Palarong Pambansa in Dapitan City in May 8-14.

Inspired by boxing icon Manny Pacquiao, they trained hard at the MP Gym which reaped good results as expected.

“We are prepared for this competition, all our boxers are disciplined and we are willing to train hard to win in this meet and in the upcoming Palarong Pambansa,” coach Cristino Laurente said.

Boxing is one of the events CRAA is banking on the country’s biggest sporting event.

Region 12 emerged as the Over-all Champion in boxing in the 2010 Palarong Pambansa in Tarlac City.

The boxing team to beat this year are composed of Holly Britanico Quenones for powderwight(36kgs.); Rabicycle Gabriel, Mosquito weight (39kg); Regel Lou Alde, Paperweight (42 kg); Martin Fadegarao, Pin weight(45 kg); and 2010 Palaro Gold medalist Roldan Boncales, light flyweight (48 kg).

Sultan Kudarat shared the championship tilt with General Santos City in the elementary division when each delegation won one gold medal. These are Gensan’s Criztian Pitt Laurente for the kiddiewieght (30 kg); and Sultan Kudarat’s 2009 Palaro bronze medalist Essneth Ray Domingo for the Antweight (32kg).

South Cotabato delegation was declared as second placer and Cotabato Province, third placer.(PIO South Cotabato)
