The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of South Cotabato has passed a resolution declaring the month of June as Tree Planting Month in the whole province.
The resolution-- authored by Hon. Jose Henry Aguirre; Co-authored by Hon. Cecile Diel and Hon. Ernesto Catedral--states that the world is now suffering from climate change and this caused devastating effects on people’s lives, livehood and properties.

In an interview, Catedral said the province has initiated many tree planting activities and even supports the Billion Trees program of the government as well as the universal movement of planting trees. But having declared and celebrated a month-long tree planting activity for the province will revitalize the program.
“This will also show solidarity and mobilize all sectors of our society to take part in the resolution of the ill-effects of global warming,” Catedral said.
The resolution likewise urges Governor Arthur Y.Pingoy Jr. to declare every month of June starting this year and onwards as tree planting month, and to design plans and programs in support to this. (PIO South Cotabato/ The South Cotabato Government)
