3,842 joins Philhealth XII Run

3,842 runners including children 3-12 years old joined in the recently concluded Philhealth Run; The Mindanao Run for Hope in Region XII held at the city of Koronadal South Cotabato.

Others came from as far as the provinces of North Cotabato, Davao del Sur, Sarangani, Sultan Kudarat, Maguindanao and Bukidnon including cities of Gensan and Kidapawan.

It has exceeded the 2,500 Regional quota in support to the 17,000 runners Mindanao aim to gather for Philhealth 17th anniversary this February.

“I joined this fun run for the benefit of children with cancer,” said one of the kiddie runners.

50% of the proceeds in Mindanao wide simultaneous run will be given to the kids with cancer confined at the Southern Philippines Medical Center Children’s Cancer Center and Blood Diseases Unit while the other 50% gained by each Region will be forwarded to their respective chosen beneficiary.

After pictures were posted at Philhealth XII’s official facebook account, comments and suggestions were given such as inclusion of different age category in the next competition and conduct of the same activity if not next year, at least by December this year.

In the Wednesday “Kapehan sa Kapitolyo” held at the Provincial Planning and Development Office of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato, said event was suggested to be done once in every quarter.

“. . so far, it was the first ever fun run activity held in the city where the runners were made to run on time and was well participated by almost all people from all walks of life,” said one of the media friends.

Priests, laymen, doctors, students, parents, couples, families including South Cotabato Governor, Dr. Arthur Y. Pingoy; City Mayor of Koronadal, Dr. Peter B. Miguel; Surallah Mayor, Romulo Solivio; Isulan Mayor, Diosdado Pallasigue and Magpet Mayor Efren Pinol came too join the event and donated cash prize for the raffle.

“May the same noble act of Philhealth be emulated by other agencies,” Diocese of Marbel, Bishop Dinualdo Guttierez said during the mass held that Sunday after the fun run was conducted. (Hanah G. Naanep)
