The declaration was made by Malacañang last February 18, 2014 through Proclamation No. 723 signed by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. to give the people of General Santos time to celebrate the 25th Kalilangan Festival and the city's 75th Foundation Anniversary.
Some of the activities happening today includes the Parada ng Lahi: Kadena de Amor happening at 5 AM to be held from Acharon Avenue to Pioneer Avenue, the Karetela, Cowboys, and Float Parade, and street dancing competition at around 1 PM and the grand culminating activity dubbed "Tagbuan sa Kasadyaan" at the Oval Plaza at 6 PM.
