General Santos City has started full implementation of the anti-smoking ordinance passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod last year.
Ordinance No. 6 Series of 2015 known as The Anti-Smoking Ordinance prohibits smoking in public places around the city and also restricts the sale, purchase, and distribution of cigarettes to minors.
City Mayor Ronnel Rivera on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 has issued a deputation order to the city police to fully implement the Anti-Smoking Ordinance.
Under the ordinance, individuals caught smoking in public places will be fined from P1,000 - P3,000, while business establishments which fails to comply with the provisions of the ordinance, especially on the designation of smoking areas will face a P1,000- P5,000 fine.
