All roads lead to General Santos City this first week of September, as the city dubbed as the "Tuna Capital of the Philippines" celebrates once again the Tuna Festival, one of the region’s most anticipated celebration.
With the theme “A Peacetival of fun – “Bida sa Saya, Bida sa Tuna!”, this year’s Tuna Festival will once again highlight the abundant harvest of tuna and the booming fishing industry in the city. Tuna Festival 2017 will formally kick-off on September 1 with the grand opening ceremony to be held at the Oval Plaza, 6 PM, and lots of other exciting activities until September 5.
Among the highlights of Tuna Festival 2017 include the 19th National Tuna Congress, Sugbahan sa Dalan, Grand Fish Fest sa Fishport, 2nd Dragon Boat Race, Bancarera, Ms. Tourism Coronation Night, 5th Mayor Rivera Shooting Cup and the Tuna Float Parade.
Other activities include the Flea Market at the Oval Plaza, Grand Carnival, Garden Show Exhibit, SMB Party Zone, Gensan Tuna Fest Food Strip, Photo and Arts Exhibit, Sounds of the Festival, Steeltech Night, Tunaman Triathlon, 8th National Skimboarding Competition, 5th SJSA Jetski Challenge;
7th International Invitational Table Tennis, 3rd Invitational Dog show, 3rd Airsoft Tournament, 2017 7-A-Side Football, Gensan Invitational Motocross Competition, Tuna Festival Basketball Open Tournament, 16th Yellowfin Mountain Bike Challenge, 1st Ultimate Frisbee and Culinary Olympics & Cookout.
The Philippine Fisheries Development Authority (PFDA) will once again manage this year’s Tuna Festival celebration in coordination with the City Economic Management and Cooperative Development Office (CEMCDO).
