New Westmincom Commander visit South Cotabato

Following his appointment as the new commander of the Western Mindanao Command (WESTMINCOM) of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Lt. Gen. William Gonzales conducted a courtesy visit to Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. at the Provincial Capitol in Koronadal City on November 14, 2023.

Lt. Gen. Gonzales assumes the role, succeeding Maj. Gen. Steve Crespillo, who has been designated as the new Inspector General of the AFP.

Governor Tamayo warmly received the visiting officials and expressed heartfelt appreciation for the AFP's tireless efforts in upholding peace and order not only in South Cotabato but also throughout Mindanao.

During their meeting, Lt. Gen. Gonzales commended the various programs initiated by Governor Tamayo, with a special emphasis on the implementation of free education in South Cotabato. He underscored the importance of such initiatives in significantly deterring insurgency and mitigating the threat of terrorism within the province.

The official affirmed that under his leadership, WESTMINCOM remains steadfast in its commitment to monitor and support the initiatives of the Provincial Government of South Cotabato.

Lt. Gen. Gonzales also presented to Governor Tamayo during his visit eight former rebels from Lake Sebu and Polomolok who surrendered and returned to the government.

Accompanying Lt. Gen. Gonzales in the visit were 6ID Commander MGEN Alex Rillera, Brigadier General Andre B. Santos, Commander of the 1st Mechanized Brigade and Colonel Ruben G. Aquino, Commander of Task Force Gensan.
