South Cotabato SK Federation President elected as SK Representative for Mindanao to National Youth Commission

In a groundbreaking development for youth representation in national governance, South Cotabato Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Provincial Federation President Vincent Figueroa emerged victorious in the election for SK Representative for Mindanao to the National Youth Commission (NYC) Commission Proper and National Advisory Council (NAC). The election took place during the National Youth Convention 2023 held in Baguio City from December 7 to 10.

SK Federation Presidents from provinces, highly urbanized cities (HUCs), and independent component cities (ICCs) exercised their voting rights on December 9, 2023, at the Philippine Military Academy. The SK election was conducted in compliance with the provisions of Republic Act 10742, also known as the Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015, as amended by RA No. 11768.

The newly elected SK Representatives are as follows:

• SK National Representative: Hon. Carol Julianne Dalipe (Zamboanga City)
• SK Representative for Luzon: Hon. Angelica Alcala (Lucena City)
• SK Representative for Visayas: Hon. Edmundo Tolentino, Jr. (Aklan)
• SK Representative for Mindanao: Hon. Vincent Figueroa (South Cotabato)

The SK National Representative will serve as an ex-officio member of the NYC Commission Proper, holding the rank and privileges of an assistant secretary. On the other hand, the SK Island Representatives will contribute their expertise and perspectives to the National Advisory Council of the NYC.

This election outcome marks a significant stride in reinforcing youth participation in national decision-making processes. The elected SK Representatives are expected to actively engage in discussions, advocacy, and policy formulation that directly impact the youth sector at the national level.
