A group of mayors and vice mayors from Lanao del Sur traveled to South Cotabato on Thursday, July 11, to personally convey their support for Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr.
Governor Tamayo, who is also the President of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), the political party of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., welcomed the delegation.
The visit comes amid controversy surrounding a recent meeting between the Lanao del Sur mayors and Governor Tamayo. Kapatagan Mayor Raida Maglangit had publicly accused the governor of intimidating mayors into supporting the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP).
Governor Tamayo has strongly denied these allegations, clarifying that no intimidation took place during the meeting.
Adding to the controversy, an unauthorized audio recording of the conversation between the governor and the mayors was circulated on social media. Governor Tamayo stated that the recording was disseminated without his permission and reiterated that all his statements during the meeting were in line with directives from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The support expressed by the Lanao del Sur officials underscores the complex political dynamics at play and highlights the governor's ongoing efforts to foster unity and cooperation among local leaders.
