In a press conference held at the Provincial Capitol on Monday, August 5, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. officially declared his support for Surallah Vice Mayor Antonio "Toni" Bendita in his bid for the congressional seat in the 3rd District of South Cotabato.
"Decided na ako ya nga ang suportahan ko para sa pagka-congressman sa 3rd District sang South Cotabato ay si Vice Mayor Toni Bendita sang Surallah," Governor Tamayo announced.
The governor emphasized that his endorsement reflects the consensus among his party members in Surallah, who have united in backing Bendita's candidacy. This move aims to promote harmony between the opposition and the administration. Governor Tamayo also noted that Surallah Mayor Pedro “Cano” Matinong Jr., brother of Board Member Miguel “Mike” Matinong, is also in support of Bendita’s campaign.
Board Member Matinong confirmed his awareness of Governor Tamayo’s endorsement, revealing that his brother, Mayor Cano Matinong, played a role in influencing this decision. Despite discussions surrounding the possibility of withdrawing from the race, Board Member Matinong reaffirmed his commitment to pursuing the congressional seat.
The 3rd legislative district of South Cotabato comprises the municipalities of Norala, Santo Niño, Surallah, Lake Sebu, and Tboli.
Additionally, Governor Tamayo announced that the official lineup of candidates for the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) in the upcoming 2025 elections will be unveiled in September
