The Department of Tourism Region 12 (DOT 12) recently announced that a total of 1,638,085 overnight travelers visited the SOCCSKSARGEN region in 2023, according to the validated data in the Regional Distribution of Overnight Travelers Report. Among these, 995,251 tourists were recorded to have visited South Cotabato and General Santos City, securing the 20th spot in the Provincial Ranking.
The report, which highlights the growing appeal of the region as a key tourist destination, reflects the collective efforts of both local government units (LGUs) and private sector partners in promoting and developing tourism. DOT 12 expressed its deep appreciation for the support from Provincial and Municipal LGUs, recognizing their crucial role in driving tourism as a socio-economic engine that creates opportunities for local communities.
"We commend our LGU Tourism Officers and staff for their dedication and consistency in monitoring tourist movement in their respective areas. Our gratitude also extends to our private partners, particularly accommodation facilities and tourist site operators, for their cooperation and willingness to share data with our LGUs," the DOT 12 statement read.
The DOT 12 emphasized that tourism is a shared responsibility, stating, "Tourism is everyone's business, and it is our business to Love the Philippines and Love SOCCSKSARGEN."
As the region continues to grow as a tourist destination, the collaboration between the public and private sectors remains vital in ensuring that SOCCSKSARGEN remains a top choice for travelers, offering unique experiences and contributing to the region's economic development.
