South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has expressed openness to a public debate with his supposed gubernatorial challenger Shine Miguel, but emphasized that any such engagement should begin with transparency — starting with a clear presentation of her platform.
Governor Tamayo responded to circulating reports online about an alleged debate challenge supposedly coming from Shine Miguel, saying he is willing to engage in a public discussion if it focuses on real issues and concrete plans.
"Handa tayong makipag-debate, pero mas mahalaga muna na ilahad niya ang kanyang plataporma. Kailangang malinaw muna kung ano ba talaga ang inaalok niya sa mga mamamayan," the governor said.
Tamayo, who is seeking re-election under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), said debates should not be treated as mere spectacle, but as an avenue for voters to compare programs and leadership styles.
He emphasized that his governance has always been anchored on free education, free hospitalization and universal healthcare, livelihood support, and inclusive development — programs he hopes to continue for the benefit of every South Cotabateño.
Meanwhile, the Facebook page “Shine South Cotabato” — which appears to be aligned with Miguel — posted a statement claiming that the alleged debate challenge did not come from the candidate herself and that such reports are false. However, the public has yet to hear a direct statement or denial from Shine Miguel herself regarding the matter.
Governor Tamayo, who also serves as President of the League of Provinces of the Philippines, Chairman of the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP), Vice Chairperson of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (NAPC) and President of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) said he remains focused on his work and will let his track record speak for itself.
As the local campaign season heats up, the governor said he remains open to meaningful dialogue — not just with political opponents, but with the people of South Cotabato — to ensure that the upcoming election is centered on platforms, progress, and the welfare of every South Cotabateño.
