Gov. Tamayo Pushes for Federalism: “Decentralization Key to Provincial Progress”

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. renewed his call for a federal form of government, stressing that decentralization is the key to balanced and inclusive growth across the country.

“The most important solution is to decentralize our government,” Tamayo said. “If we decentralize, economic activities will spread to the provinces, creating opportunities and jobs locally. People will no longer have to flock to Metro Manila just to find work.”

As national president of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), Gov. Tamayo cited South Cotabato as a working model of what decentralization can deliver. Under his administration, the province has rolled out free education, including in private institutions through business partnerships, free housing, free hospitalization, improved infrastructure, and expanded employment opportunities.

“In South Cotabato, we are showing what a decentralized, federal-type government can achieve,” he explained. “Roads are improved, health and education are free, jobs are available, and most importantly, people feel the presence of government in their daily lives.”

Tamayo emphasized that active collaboration with the private sector helps fill gaps that a federal system would ideally address nationwide.

“As PFP president, I will continue pushing for decentralization and a federal form of government to ensure progress for every province,” he said. “At all cost, we will do everything possible to make this happen. This is very important — and I hope within this generation, Filipinos will unite to achieve our dream of a truly decentralized government.”

Recognized as one of the most vocal advocates of federalism in Mindanao, Tamayo continues to highlight South Cotabato’s governance model as proof that empowering provinces leads to sustainable and inclusive development.
