In its letter dated November 16, the CCC invited Governor Tamayo to the Climate Convergence: Innovation, Leadership and Advocacy Forum on November 23 at the University of Makati in Taguig City, where he is to be honored alongside select leaders and advocates from across the country.
Governor Tamayo was cited for his pioneering “Cashierless Hospitals” policy, a breakthrough initiative that removes upfront medical fees in government hospitals. The CCC highlighted how this model strengthens community resilience by ensuring that families receive timely healthcare—an essential factor as climate change heightens health risks, disasters, and vulnerabilities.
The Commission praised Governor Tamayo for his “outstanding contributions to environmental stewardship, sustainability leadership, and community-driven climate action.” It further underscored that he was selected as a Climate Hero for his “exemplary efforts in advancing resilience, sustainability, and climate justice.”
This recognition celebrates individuals whose work reflects courage, innovation, and compassion, especially those who champion programs that protect communities and the environment. Governor Tamayo’s governance framework—anchored on health, welfare, and empowerment—was commended for aligning local development with climate adaptation and inclusive resilience.
Through this award, the CCC affirms that strong health systems, social protection programs, and grassroots-driven policies are essential pillars of a climate-resilient nation—principles embodied in South Cotabato under Governor Tamayo’s leadership.
