The spirit of Christmas was felt strongly in the home of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. as he opened his residence in Tupi to constituents on Christmas Day, welcoming nearly a thousand people who came to personally greet him and ask for pamasko.
From early morning until late afternoon, residents from different parts of the province trooped to the governor’s home, sharing holiday greetings and brief conversations with him. In the spirit of Christmas, each visitor received food packs and Noche Buena packages prepared by the governor’s household staff to ensure that families would have something special for their Christmas celebration.
A long-time aide of Governor Tamayo said the activity is a deeply rooted family tradition that began when the governor was still serving as mayor of Tupi.
“This has always been the family’s way of celebrating Christmas — opening their home to the people and sharing whatever they have,” the aide said.
Beyond the holiday season, it was noted that the residence of Governor Tamayo remains open even on ordinary days, welcoming anyone in need of help or assistance. Constituents regularly visit his home to seek guidance or support, reflecting the governor’s personal commitment to accessible and people-centered leadership.
The same open-door policy has been extended to the Provincial Capitol in Koronadal City. When Governor Tamayo assumed office in 2019, he ordered that his office be open to all, regardless of social status, allowing constituents direct access to the provincial chief executive.
The Christmas Day gathering once again highlighted Governor Tamayo’s brand of public service — one grounded in humility, compassion, and closeness to the people — values that continue to define his leadership in South Cotabato.
