• The South Cotabato Hymn Lyrics

    South Cotabato Hymn

    Kami’y anak ng South Cotabato
Taglay ang iisang dugo ng Pilipino
    Iba’ ibang tribung pinanggalingan

    Ating abutin and magandang kinabukasan
    Lahat tayo’y magkaisa
    Sa himig at sa diwa
Para sa ating bayang South Cotabato.

    Background

Thru the resolution passed by the office of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of South Cotabato, the adoption of South Cotabato Hymn was approved on July 12, 2006.

Resolution #5 series of 2006 is a resolution enacting an ordinance adopting the South Cotabato Hymn as official hymn of the province . The resolution requires all the government and non-government offices, organizations, schools and radio stations to include movie houses and commercial sound systems within the province of South Cotabato to sing or play the said hymn during certain occasions.

As the lyrics and appropriate musical accompaniments were approved by the Body composed of 13 board members with vice-Governor Eliordo U. Ogena as the presiding officer, the first formal singing of South Cotabato was heard by the public during the opening of the 2006 Tnalak festival and 40th Foundation anniversary of the province.

It can be recalled that the provincial government made a search in the form of an open contest with cash prizes at stake as who can submit the best entry for the hymn however of all the entries everybody had passed to the criteria set by the committee but none had passed the tune according to the judges savor.

Finally, after several referrals by others, according to Mr. Danilo P. Supe, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator that time, a certain Jonaf del Fierro of the Asian Institute of Music (AIM) entry’s was accepted after listening a number of times which the Body finally found the latest proposed version thereof to be the most appropriate and inspiring embodiment of South Cotabato, its people and their aspirations.
