In her opening remarks, NNC 12 Nutrition Program Coordinator, Ms. Arceli M. Latonio said Region XII is safer from natural calamities compared with other Regions; nevertheless, it pays to be ready in coping with difficult situation and prepare practical nutritious food for the family.
Dr. Francisco V. Mateo, Department of Health (DOH)-Center for Health Development Assistant Regional Director on the other hand cited that proper nutrition begins at home and it should start first with breastfeeding for babies; second by preparing natural vegetables and nutritious food than canned goods for growing up kids.
“Since proper nutrition begins at home, condition your children’s taste buds for them to carry on when they grow old,” Mateo said.
Said messages prelude to the recipe development, nutria quiz and nutria henyo competition.
JENMIONG ROLLS made of odong, sweet potato and tuna flakes by Romeo Sucaldito and Jenil Santocildes of Philhealth12 won first place in recipe development followed by DSWD-12’s Sardilis de noodles and DBM-12’s instant vege noodles with squash balls.
DBM12’s representatives garnered first place in nutria quiz followed by Philhealth12 represented by Ramil J. Sangco and Nancy Apoldo then DSWD12 reps.

All participants and winners received tokens and certificates but the formal awarding ceremony shall be held in October.
In closing, Mr. Fanny C. Divino, Program Manager of Save the Children of South Central Mindanao Chapter emphasized on the roles and responsibilities of adults in upholding children nutrition.
