Former South Cotabato governor Ismael "Mike" Sueno is new DILG secretary

Former South Cotabato governor Ismael "Mike" Sueno has been named as the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte. This was announced and confirmed in a televised news conference on Tuesday night, May 31, 2016 held in Davao City.

As DILG secretary, the former South Cotabato governor and former national chairman of PDP-Laban will be overseeing the various local government units across the country, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Other personalities that will be holding key positions in Duterte's administration named during the news conference are the following:

• lawyer Salvador Medialdea as executive secretary 
• retired Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, former chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as national security adviser 
• Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr. of Maribojoc, Bohol, as secretary to the Cabinet 
• Michael Diño as presidential assistant for the Visayas 
• Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya as chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 
• Chief Supt. Ronald de la Rosa as director of the Philipine National Police (PNP) 
• Dante Gierran as director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), where he is currently Region 9 director (having jurisdiction over the Zamboanga Peninsula)
