Former South Cotabato governor Mike Sueno is new DILG secretary

Former South Cotabato governor Ismael "Mike" Sueno has been named as the Secretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in the administration of President-elect Rodrigo Duterte. This was announced and confirmed in a televised news conference on Tuesday night, May 31, 2016 held in Davao City.

As DILG secretary, the former South Cotabato governor and former national chairman of PDP-Laban will be overseeing the various local government units across the country, the Philippine National Police, the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and the Bureau of Fire Protection.

Other personalities that will be holding key positions in Duterte's administration named during the news conference are the following:
  • lawyer Salvador Medialdea as executive secretary 
  • retired Gen. Hermogenes Esperon, former chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as national security adviser 
  • Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr. of Maribojoc, Bohol, as secretary to the Cabinet 
  • Michael Diño as presidential assistant for the Visayas 
  • Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya as chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) 
  • Chief Supt. Ronald de la Rosa as director of the Philipine National Police (PNP) 
  • Dante Gierran as director of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), where he is currently Region 9 director (having jurisdiction over the Zamboanga Peninsula) 
  • Ricardo Halad as executive director of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) 
  • former Anakpawis Rep. Rafael Mariano as secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) 
  • former North Cotabato Gov. Manuel Piñol as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA) 
  • Benjamin Diokno as secretary of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), a post he also held under the Estrada administration 
  • former national treasurer Leonor Briones as secretary of the Department of Education (DepEd) 
  • Alfonso Cusi, former manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), as secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE) 
  • former Agriculture Secretary Carlos Dominguez as secretary of the Department of Finance 
  • Perfecto Yasay, former chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), as secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) 
  • lawyer Vitaliano Aguirre II as secretary of the Department of Justice (DOJ) 
  • former Justice Secretary Silvestre Bello III as secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 
  • retired Maj. Gen. Delfin Lorenzana as secretary of the Department of National Defense (DND) 
  • Las Piñas Rep. Mark Villar as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DSWD) 
  • Judy Taguiwalo, professor at the College of Women and Development Studies at the University of the Philippines, as secretary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) 
  • Fortunato de la Peña as secretary of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), where he is undersecretary at the moment 
  • Arthur Tugade, former president and CEO of Clark Development Corp., as secretary of the Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC) 
  • Alex Monteagudo as director-general of the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) 
  • retired police Director Jaime Morente as chief of the Bureau of Immigration and Deportation (BID) 
  • retired Marine Capt. Nicanor Faeldon as chief of the Bureau of Customs (BOC) 
  • Cesar Dulay as chairman of the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR)
