Wasay, Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat and PhilHealth XII Regional Vice President, Dr. Miriam Grace G. Pamonag during the second day of the Social Health Insurance Education Series (SHInES) in Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat last December 4, 2018.

SHInES is an educational tool used by the Social Health Insurance Academy (SHIA) of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PHIC) to its members in order to empower a particular community through their leaders.

PhilHealth as an institution managing the National Health Insurance Program for all Filipinos has its limited number of employees; thus the need for information multiplier in order to spread its concept, policies, programs and services to its entire members.

With the 92% coverage of the population, those who remain unreached are currently its target for information, education and communication (IEC) activities.

“We are thankful to the Alliance for Health on Improving Health Outcomes (AIHO) led by Dr. Donna Isabel Capili who has taken the initiative of reaching out our Manobo brothers. They are basically our priorities and we cannot afford to leave them behind because the corporation has committed to cover all Filipinos from all walks of life,” SHIA Senior Manager, Arsenia Torres said

AIHO Project Lead, Dr. Capili has been into this project for two years now and would like to see to it that her aim of empowering said people would eventually be materialized.

The five-day training by PhilHealth XII specifically taught not only the IP leaders themselves but also some identified Barangay Health Workers (BHWs) and Senior Citizen President of Kalamansig.

Said training includes lectures, games, tests and actual exposure to the PhilHealth Office for the enrolment process; Kalamansig Rural Health Unit (RHU)for the primary care benefit availment process and Cotabato Regional Medical Center (CRMC) for the hospitalization benefits availment process.

Being the pilot testing area, PhilHealth XII Regional Vice President, Dr. Miriam Grace G. Pamonag is hoping that this project shall be institutionalized for other Regions with IPs to replicate.

Although in terms of political area, Kalamansig is under Sultan Kudarat; Cotabato Local Health Insurance Office Head, Sharihana G. Sali has welcomed them in LHIO Cotabato since geographically, Kalamansig is closer to her area.
