"Bamboo industry to boom in the next three years." This according to South Cotabato Trade and Industry  (DTI) department representative Richard Arsenio during the Provincial Multi – Sectoral Forest Protection Committee meeting hosted by the Local Government of Banga, Tuesday, January 11.

There is a huge demand on bamboo particularly apus, butong and, tinik once the processing is in place Arsenio said and bamboos in South Cotabato could not supply the demand for bamboos.

Bamboos can be processed into wood tiles. The NAKAYAMA group of companies based in Digos, Davao Del Sur is now putting up a 30 million investments for the establishments of bamboo processing plants.

There is a need to develop bamboo industries as this would be an alternative livelihood for our people in the uplands as it also helps arrest carbons Arsenion said adding “There is also a need to conduct inventory of the volume of bamboos being produced in South Cotabato.”

To ensure the growth of bamboo industry in the province, DTI will be organizing a Bamboo Council to look into the development of the industry in the province.

NAKAYAMA will be dealing with people’s organizations and cooperatives to do away with middle man. The company will put up a collection center in Koronadal.
