In celebration of this year's Hinugyaw sa Pascua and the upcoming Hinugyaw Festival 2012 this January 2012, the Koronadal City LGU invites you to join the first HINUGYAW BEST SHOTS! Check out the backgrounder and the mechanics below.

Behind the scenes


Hinugyaw sa Pascua
Geared towards making the city a holiday destination, this year’s celebration of the Hinugaw sa Pascua is more dazzling, spectacular and meaningful. The celebration which commenced on the 16th and ends on 22nd of December, 2011 is a long-standing tradition of the city usually characterized by festive décors of colorful lights, trees and lanterns throughout the City Hall and the urban center and nightly celebration of carols, dances and Christmas bazaar making the spirit of Christmas alive among Koronadaleños.


Hinugyaw Festival 2012
A weeklong celebration of the Foundation Anniversary of Koronadal running from the 6th to the 10th day of January, 2012. A gala of warmth, hospitality, competence, character, creativity, artistry, integrity excellence , victory, charm and meaningful strength started by the settlers in 1940. The festival is a colorful merry-making depicting the evolution of the distinct cultures of Bla’ans, Maguindanaoans, and Christians into singular wave of rhythm as a tribute to the Creator, and in celebration of the spirit that Koronadal is known for, dynamic and persistent in its thrust for sustainable development. Since its inception, the celebration has reflected the colorful milestone in Koronadal’s progress as a city, taking into force the participation of residents in the quest for a more livable urban center in the upper valley of the Cotabato basin.


Theme
The theme for the HINUGYAW BEST SHOTS is "Hinugyaw sa Pascua and Hinugyaw Festival : People and Events".


The city has been spawning innovative activities and creative presentations for the people, who deserve no less, to be able to experience what is Uniquely Koronadal. To brand Koronadal as the korona capital of the country, this year, the city government launches the Hinugyaw Piyesta Korona as the highlight of the celebration. This competition will become a fierce battleground where color, pomp, and pageantry converge to define the Festival at its very best. Hence, the Piyesta Korona will be the major event among the three categories.


Categories:
Category 1. Major Event -photos taken during the Hinugyaw Piyesta Korona.
Category 2. Minor Event -photos taken from the Hinugyaw sa Pascua.
Category 3. Minor Event-photos taken from the Hinugyaw Festival except Piyesta Korona.


Eligibility
  • The contest is open to both amateur and professional photographers.
  • He/She must be a resident of the City of Koronadal for at least 6 months.
  • Interested participants must fill up and submit a registration form at the City Information Office on or before December 23, 2011. Registration is free. DOWNLOAD THE REGISTRATION FORM HERE.
  • Photos must have been taken during the 2011 Hinugyaw sa Pascua and Koronadal Hinugyaw Festival 2012 , and should not have won nor have been published in any other books orphotography magazines.
  • Participants may use any digital camera or film-based camera and submit the original and color photographs in digital file format to the official developing center identified by the organizer.
  • A maximum of five (5) different photos may be submitted by a participant in each category.
  • A participant may join in all categories.
  • Entries should be submitted to the official developing center identified by the organizer.
  • Entries must be printed in full color on any brand of photo paper, 8 inches x 12 inches in size. Manually retouched and/or painted over print outputs are not allowed.
  • Creative effects done within the camera at the time of exposure e.g. multiple exposures, flashfill, lighting, filtration, etc. are allowed.
  • The following details must be included in the submission: Name, address, contact number, e-mail address, age, a little description of the photo with titleand where/when the photo was taken.
  • Winners will be notified via phone and via the www.koronadal.gov.ph web site when judging has been completed.
  • All winning entries shall become the property of the city government which will have the rightto reproduce, exhibit, or publish the images for promotional purposes, indicating/acknowledging the photographer. The LGU may display the prints in a public venue, or publish them for the purpose of promoting the Hinugyaw Festival, without any more financial compensation to the photographers.
Submission of Entries
Deadline for the submission of entries is on or before January 11, 2011, 5 p.m at the designated developing center.


Photo exhibit shall be on January 16-20, 2011 at the City Hall Lobby.


Announcement of winners shall be on January 20, 2011.


Prizes at Stake:
Category 1. Major Event -photos taken during the Hinugyaw Piyesta Korona.
• First Prize - PhP 5,000.00
• Second Prize - PhP 4,000.00
• Third Prize - PhP 3,000.00
• Top 7 - PhP 500.00 each


Category 2. Minor Event -photos taken from the Hinugyaw sa Pascua.
• First Prize - PhP 3,000.00
• Second Prize - PhP 2,000.00
• Third Prize - PhP 1,000.00
• Top 7 - PhP 500.00 each


Category 3. Minor Event-photos taken from the Hinugyaw Festival activities
except Piyesta Korona.
• First Prize - PhP 3,000.00
• Second Prize - PhP 2,000.00
• Third Prize - PhP 1,000.00
• Top 7 - PhP 500. Each


Judging Criteria
• Photo ‘fit’ and relevance to category (20%)
o How well does the photo meet the criteria of the category it is in?
• Composition (20%)
o Are the items of interest placed well in the photo?
o Are there distracting elements?
• Creativity (25%)
o Is the subject matter pictured in a unique way or is a common item shown from an
interesting point-of-view?
o Does the photo demonstrate originality?
o Has the photographer used light in interesting ways?
• Technical quality (25%)
o Is the photo in focus?
o Is lighting in balance?
o Is depth of field considered/used?
o Shutter speed varied or adjusted to be appropriate for the photo?
• Overall Impression (10%)
o Is the photo able to grab the viewer’s attention and hold it?
o What is the ‘wow’ factor? Are there any special effects, or extras?
