NDMU bags 2nd in Smart SWEEP Innovation and Excellence Award

A team composed of ECE students from Notre Dame of Marbel University placed second yesterday February 22, 2012 in a nationwide contest of most innovative wireless applications to address real problems in the community.

The team of Louie Flores (team leader), Sheena Basilisco, Kingsly Alovera and Eusop Alim was mentored by Engr. Rachel Sucayan and Mr. Arnel Robles. They placed second in the 8th Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (Smart Sweep) Innovation and Excellence Award held at the Hall 1 of SMX Convention Center in Pasay City.

The NDMU team developed and submitted "Smart E-Mobilized" an application that uses an android phone and Smart’s wireless broadband technology which will enable subscribers to enroll in a service which help minimize the time and effort in buying tickets at MRT and LRT stations simply by swiping an electronic mobile card at barcode readers at the station, and the payment will already be processed and deducted from the subcriber's Smart Money account, which is linked to the application.

Congratulations NDMU team, they have won P300,000 for themselves plus another P300,000 in grants for Notre Dame of Marbel University.

Other top winners of the 8th SWEEP Innovation and Excellence Awards includes Mapua Institute of Technology (1st Place) for their project "Wearable Obstacle Detection System and Braille Cell Phone for the Blind" and Bataan Peninsula State University (3rd Place) for the project "Aquamarine Solution to Salinity and Oxygen Using SMS". The teams received P500,000 and P150,000 as cash prize respectively plus the equivalent amount going to the school in a form of a grant.

The Smart Wireless Engineering Education Program (SWEEP) Innovation and Excellence Awards is an annual contest among engineering schools that have partnered with Smart. SWEEP is an industry-academe partnership that seeks to help raise the level of technology and engineering education in the Philippines. More than 100 schools from all over the country participated this year with a theme "Innovation in the Palm of Your Hand."

  5. may malaking kalokohan na naganap sa 8th Smart Sweep Awards tsk tsk, yung nagchampion sa mobile apps category pinagawa lang nila ang entry nila sa iba, kawawang Ateneo naagawan ng panalo, dapat maimbestigahan to ng Smart Communications, Inc., paano makakagawa ng isang mobile app kung wala namang kaalaman sa pagdevelop nito, ang team na halos lahat ng miyembro walang alam sa programing android pa kaya na di naman tinuturo sa pamantasan nila? panawagan lang po sa Ateneo de Manila University, wag nyo palagpasin to
