Pacquiao vs. Acharon in South Cotabato's 1st district congressional race

A younger Pacquiao is challenging incumbent congressman Pedro Acharon Jr. for the congressional seat of the 1st district of South Cotabato in the May 2013 elections.

Rogelio "Roel" Pacquiao who has served as barangay chairman of Apopong one of the biggest barangay in General Santos City is running under the People's Champ Movement, the political party founded by his brother and Sarangani representative Manny Pacquiao. Meanwhile, incumbent representative Acharon who has also served as city mayor of General Santos for nine years is seeking re-election as congressman of the 1st district of South Cotabato. Acharon is running under the Achievement with Integrity Movement (AIM).

South Cotabato's first congressional district is composed of the municipalities of Polomolok, Tupi and Tampakan and the City of General Santos.
