South Cotabato wins Galing Pook award


South Cotabato has finally won the prestigious Galing Pook award. This was after its cluster sanitary landfill project located in the Municipality of Surallah was adjudged as one of the Ten Outstanding Local Governance Programs for 2014.

Given by the Galing Pook Foundation, the award recognizes innovation and excellence in local governance, where winners are selected based on positive results and impact, promotion of people’s participation and empowerment, innovation, transferability and sustainability, and efficiency of program service delivery.

This year, a total of 96 entries from different LGU's nationwide were initially selected and was later cut to 27 entries for site evaluation. Among the 27 entries that was evaluated, only 17 made it to this year's Galing Pook shortlist.

Located in Brgy. Colongulo in Surallah, the six-hectare cluster sanitary landfill was launched in 2008 and was opened on June 2014. It now serves the municipalities of Banga, Lake Sebu, Norala, Sto. Niño, Surallah and Tboli.

The Galing Pook 2014 awarding ceremony will be held on October 21 at the Malacañang Palace.
