The towns of Surallah and Tboli in the Province of South Cotabato was placed under "state of calamity" due to drought brought by El Niño phenomenon.
According to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPAg), El Niño has already destroyed an estimated 3,511 and 532 hectares of corn and rice fields respectively in the said municipalities.
Among the barangays in Tboli most affected by drought are Lambangan, Lamsalome, Malugong and Talcon.
Several hectares of farmland planted with rice and corn in the Municipality of Tupi are also affected by drought. In the City of Koronadal, Barangay Carpenter Hill, Saravia, Assumption, Topland and San Roque were also placed under state of calamity.
