The exhibit of the Department of Tourism - Region 12 in the recently concluded Mindanao Tapestry event was a big hit!
Guests, including VIP's can't help but noticed the SOX exhibit at the main entrance of SMX Convention Center in SM Lanang Premier in Davao City. Included in the exhibition were traditional musical instruments, different traditional costumes, clothes and textiles from all over the region including Tnalak and Inaul. There is also a photo exhibition of different tourist destinations in SOCCSKSARGEN and live demonstration of Tnalak weaving by no other than two of the well-known "dreamweavers" from Lake Sebu, South Cotabato.
The AVP "SOX is Next", the newly-launched tourism campaign of DOT-12 was also played several times in the large screen display at the venue.
During the pre-show, two of the most talented and well-known fashion designers in the region also showcased their creations. Ivan Raborar, known as the "Prince of Tnalak Couture" from City of Koronadal showcased his Tnalak creations while Wilfred Yee from Cotabato City got to showcased his Inaul collections.
During the main show 28 Miss Universe candidates paraded the ramp wearing neo-ethnic Mindanao tapestry. Miss Universe-Philippines Maxine Medina wore a Tnalak creation by Alfonso “Boy” Guino-o a Davao-based fashion designer.
A collection of Tnalak creations by renowned Filipino designer Renee Salud also wowed the audience at SMX Convention Center. These were worn by Miss Universe candidates from Singapore, USA, Kazakhstan, Switzerland and Miss Bulgaria.
Tnalak weaver Barbara Ofong and cultural worker Maria Todi in their beautiful Tboli traditional costumes with other Mindanaoan artists also shared the stage with Renee Salud and Miss Universe candidates at the end of the show.
