Magnitude 6.8 earthquake causes damage in South Cotabato

Following the recent 6.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Sarangani, Davao Occidental on November 17, several towns in South Cotabato experienced varying intensity levels, with Tampakan, Banga, Tupi, Lake Sebu, Tboli, and Polomolok feeling the ground shake at Intensity V. Meanwhile, in Koronadal, Surallah, Sto. Niño, Tantangan, and Norala, the intensity reached Level IV.

Tboli and Tupi faced additional challenges due to landslides, exacerbating the difficulties for affected communities. Among the reported impacts, 374 individuals suffered from hyperventilation, panic attacks, and various injuries, with eight individuals still undergoing treatment in hospitals.

The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Office (PDRR) of South Cotabato reported 34 houses with partial damage and 28 houses declared totally damaged, underscoring the immediate need for support and assistance.
