President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approves establishment of Tupi IT Park

In a move set to ignite economic growth and technological advancement, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has given his official seal of approval for the establishment of a cutting-edge special economic zone dedicated to information technology (IT) in Tupi, South Cotabato.

Proclamation 530, inked on Thursday and disclosed to the public on Saturday, designates a prime 15,000-square meter parcel along the national highway as the site for the groundbreaking Tupi IT Park, signaling a significant leap forward for the first-class municipality.

President Marcos expressed his strategic vision behind the decision, stating, “The move aims to support the current government thrust to attract more foreign investors.” This visionary initiative underscores the administration’s commitment to fostering an environment conducive to innovation and foreign investment, driving economic progress across the nation.

The Tupi IT Park initiative garnered enthusiastic endorsement from the board of directors of the Philippine Economic Zone Authority, affirming its potential to catalyze economic diversification and job creation. This landmark designation aligns seamlessly with the authority vested in the chief executive under Republic Act No. 7916, also known as the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995, bolstered by the amendments introduced by Republic Act No. 8748.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, acting on behalf of the President, formalized the proclamation, extending the government’s full support to the development of Lot 1-C-5-A (LRC) Psd-198686 TCT No. 145-2015001381 into a vibrant hub of technological innovation and economic dynamism.

Tupi’s pivotal role in this transformative endeavor holds special significance, being the hometown of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. Governor Tamayo’s illustrious leadership, spanning three consecutive terms as mayor before assuming the governorship in 2019, underscores the municipality’s rich potential and readiness to embrace this new chapter of progress.
