COMELEC announces successful plebiscite, establishes Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo in Tupi, South Cotabato

In a press statement, the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) reported the successful conduct of the July 13 plebiscite to ratify the creation of Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo, as per Sangguniang Panlalawigan Resolution No. 157, series of 2023.

The canvass results confirmed that the new Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo will be formed from sections of the existing barangays of Cebuano, Miasong, and Linan.

Out of the 9,765 registered voters from the participating barangays, 2,485 cast their votes. An overwhelming 2,393 voters (96.3%) voted "Yes" to ratify the creation of Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo, while 89 voters (3.58%) voted "No," resulting in an overall voter turnout of 25.45%.

The establishment of Barangay Juan Loreto Tamayo increases the number of barangays in Tupi to 16, and South Cotabato now has a total of 200 barangays. This new administrative division is anticipated to enhance local services and focus development efforts for residents. Local officials and community members are optimistic that the formation of the new barangay will strengthen community bonds and improve the delivery of public services.
