THE TRUTH SHALL ALWAYS PREVAIL: Comelec dismisses petition against Governor Tamayo's PFP leadership

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed the petition challenging the leadership of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo, Jr., in the ruling Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP). The decision, which was a significant development for the party, was made by the Comelec En Banc, with a unanimous vote of 6-0, as announced in a resolution dated September 6, 2024. Chairman George Garcia abstained from the vote.

Governor Tamayo, who has been serving as the national president of PFP since 2019, celebrated the dismissal of the petition filed by former governor and congressman Leandro Verceles Jr. of Catanduanes. Verceles, who was elected as the national president during a party general assembly in Pasig City on December 14, 2023, had questioned Tamayo's leadership, claiming a rival position within the party.

In a statement posted on Facebook, Tamayo expressed his satisfaction with the resolution. “Congratulations! In a Resolution dated September 6, 2024, the COMELEC EN BANC by a vote of 6-0. Chairman George Garcia taking no part, DISMISSED for lack of merit,” Tamayo wrote.

Tamayo's post continued with a defiant tone: “THE TRUTH SHALL ALWAYS PREVAIL. Mabuhay ang tunay na PFP!” signaling his confidence in the legitimacy of his leadership and the unity of the party.

In a recent radio interview, Governor Tamayo emphasized his leadership’s legitimacy, noting that he has the backing of President Bongbong Marcos, the PFP's National Chairman. “From the start alam naman nila na wala silang laban. Nanggugulo lang talaga,” he remarked

The dismissal of the petition reinforces Tamayo's position within the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas and underscores the Comelec's assessment that the challenge lacked substantive merit.
