Gov. Tamayo Honors Late Father in Heartfelt Inaugural Speech

In a heartfelt inaugural speech delivered on Monday, June 30, at the South Cotabato Gymnasium and Cultural Center, Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. honored the memory of his father, the late Congressman Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Sr., and shared how his guidance and influence continue to shape his leadership journey.

Governor Tamayo, who is now serving his third and final term as provincial chief executive, recalled the special bond he had with his father — a former regional director of DPWH and ANGAT Party-list representative — whose belief in genuine public service inspired him to seek the governorship in 2019.

The governor’s father, Congressman Tamayo, passed away on June 21, 2025, in a hospital in General Santos City, just days before the scheduled inauguration. His passing left a deep void in the hearts of his family, colleagues, and constituents across South Cotabato and beyond.

Governor Tamayo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support they’ve received and reaffirmed his commitment to continue the legacy of integrity, humility, and genuine public service left behind by his father.

The oath-taking ceremony was officiated by Judge Jean Marie Gallego-Vencer and attended by newly-elected and re-elected provincial officials, dignitaries, and supporters.

As the province mourns the loss of a statesman, the younger Tamayo steps forward with renewed resolve — guided by the lessons, values, and dreams passed on to him by his father.
