Gov. Tamayo Calls Out LTO Chief Lacanilao for “Unnecessary and Disrespectful” Remarks

South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. has called out Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief, Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, for his recent remarks made during a visit to Region 12, describing them as unnecessary, unprofessional, and disrespectful to public officials.

Governor Tamayo was reacting to Lacanilao’s statement declaring that he would “spare no one” in his campaign against corruption, even those allegedly backed by governors, congressmen, or mayors. The governor said such remarks were uncalled for, especially since they dragged the positions of local government officials and even an official from Malacanang into a matter that had nothing to do with politics.

According to Tamayo, the LTO Chief’s statement was not only divisive but also cast unwarranted suspicion on officials who have no involvement in the agency’s internal concerns. He emphasized that it was improper for a national official to publicly make such broad accusations and name-drop positions that carry public trust.

The governor shared that, to verify the matter, he called on LTO Region 12 Regional Director Melharrieh Tomawis and confirmed that the region actually posted one of the best revenue collection performances in Mindanao - proof that its operations remain efficient and transparent.

He likewise took exception to Lacanilao’s public boasts claiming he was part of the group that arrested former President Rodrigo Duterte - a statement the governor described as both absurd and disrespectful.

Tamayo stressed that arrogance has no place in public service and that those in high positions must exercise humility and restraint. He reminded national officials to perform their duties responsibly, avoid grandstanding, and respect the offices and individuals they work alongside.

He concluded that public service should be grounded on integrity, humility, and collaboration, not on divisive rhetoric or unfounded boasts that only weaken trust in government institutions.
