Video: A Story on the Tasadays of Lake Sebu

The following are videos about the story of the Tasadays of Lake Sebu, South Cotabato. The Tasaday story revisited 30 years later  was produced by GMA News and Public Affairs  and was aired on GMA-7's I-Witness, a documentary program last June 22, 2009. I-Witness host's Kara David visited a very remote rainforest in Lake Sebu, South Cotabato in-search for the Tasadays, a band of cave-dwelling people allegedly living a very paleolithic lifestyle during the time of their discovery.

The Tasadays were discovered in the year 1971 by Manuel “Manda” Elizalde,Jr., a Spanish-American Filipino who headed an organization that assisted Philippine tribal people in their struggle to survive the onrush of modern civilization. However, in the year 1986 a Swiss journalist came out claiming that the Tasaday tribe of Lake Sebu were a hoax. Watch the documentary and you decide.

  4. I know their story we discussed it in our school way back HS. I remember one Tasaday interviewed by a journalist that they are asked to take off their clothes to make it more "CAVE MAN" thingy. And promise them to have lots of money if they do so and give them protection and security from counter-insurgency and tribal fighting. The tribe become the laughing stock of the world. When they found out it is a HOAX. Poor Tasadays. Politics that time really make them look like a HOAX. Hope they give justice to this. And knowing now that they are change for the better.

  8. Yes, I remember the Tasadays way back in high school. Its in the current events lesson that time. Its good to know that little by little they are becoming literate so that they will not be easily manipulated and deceive by people who are trying to take advantage of them =)
