Temporary closure of Lake Holon to visitors to begin January 7

The municipal government of Tboli has announced the temporary closure of Lake Holon to visitors beginning January 7, 2019.

Through Executive Order No. 1 Series of 2019 issued last January 3, Tboli Mayor Dibu S. Tuan directed the local tourism unit to temporarily close to visitors the entrances going to Lake Holon starting January 7 until March 2019 during the celebration of Seslong Festival.

"Whereas, pursuant to section 20 of Municipal Ordinance No. 133 series of 2016 Paragraph (d) - Tourism site conservation and protection activities, closing and condoning off of certain areas of the cave, forest mountains, lakes and others to visitors at certain times of the year or for several years to allow ecosystem to breath or revert to its natural state"

During the period the following activities will be also conducted:

1. Training and refresher course of the frontline personnel
2. Rehabilitation of the facilities
3. Biodiversity assesment of the area

Dubbed as the "Crown Jewel of the South", Lake Holon is the 304-hectare crater lake of Mt. Melibingoy. The lake has been named as one of the cleanest inland body of water in the country and is now among the favorite tourist destinations in South Cotabato and SOCCSKSARGEN region.
