Brittany Tamayo emerged victorious in the girls' 10-12 division after a thrilling finish. The 12-year-old from Notre Dame of Marbel University secured her win with a clutch par on the 18th hole, narrowly defeating Kimberly Barroquillo in a sudden-death playoff. Despite losing a three-stroke lead with just two holes to play and finishing with an 85, Tamayo managed to tie Barroquillo at 163 after 36 holes. In the playoff, Tamayo's strategic play saw her reach the green in two shots on the par-5 18th, while Barroquillo’s three-putt sealed Tamayo’s triumph. Tamayo will now focus on sharpening her short game as she prepares for the Mindanao Series 2 at South Pacific.
In the boys' 10-12 division, Jared Saban from South Cotabato delivered a dominant performance with a score of 78, tying the 19-over total of 163 and finishing 16 strokes ahead of his cousin, Laurence Saban, who posted an 88 for a total of 179. Jared attributed his success to rigorous practice in pitching and putting. Both Jared and Brittany, recently returned from the Junior World Championships, are expected to be strong contenders for the Match Play finals at The Country Club in October.
In the boys' 16-18 division, Rainier Tagwalan, also from South Cotabato, made a notable debut at the ICTSI Junior PGT Mindanao Series. The 16-year-old edged out Adrian Bisera in a competitive finish, showcasing the skills he developed at the Brittannika Golf Course in Tupi, South Cotabato.
