South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. recently provided an update on the ongoing construction of the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital Extension Building, emphasizing the province's commitment to expanding healthcare services for its residents.
Governor Tamayo announced that alongside the current extension building under construction, plans are underway to build an additional facility at the site of the Protech Center. This expansion is aimed at increasing the hospital's capacity to serve more citizens who require free hospitalization.
“Our Provincial Hospital was originally designed to accommodate 200 patients, but it currently handles up to 400. With the completion of the new extension, we expect to increase our capacity to between 800 and 1,000 patients,” Governor Tamayo stated.
In conjunction with the physical expansion, Governor Tamayo stressed the importance of streamlining the hospital’s referral system to alleviate overcrowding. “We are maximizing our manpower to deliver specialized medical services, not only for South Cotabateños but also for patients from neighboring provinces,” he explained.
Governor Tamayo also underscored the inclusive approach of the Provincial Hospital, stating, "No political boundaries – many of those we serve come from other provinces, such as Lutayan in Sultan Kudarat. Who are we to turn away those in need?"
Governor Tamayo also discussed the implementation of electronic medical records for South Cotabateños, a key initiative supported by PhilHealth. South Cotabato is one of the seven LGUs selected as a sandbox site to pilot the KonSulta-PCPN program, demonstrating the province's commitment to advancing healthcare technology.
The extension building is expected to be operational within the year, significantly enhancing the capacity and efficiency of the South Cotabato Provincial Hospital. This development will ensure that more residents have access to the medical care they need.
