Special Assistant to the President Antonio Ernesto Lagdameo Jr. and South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. have strongly denied allegations of misappropriation of funds intended for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) and claims of coercing politicians to join the administration.
In a joint statement released on October 10, Thursday, both officials labeled the accusations as false and malicious, aimed at misleading the public.
"We categorically deny these baseless accusations that funds meant for BARMM have been misused or that politicians are being pressured to align with the administration," the statement read.
Lagdameo stated that the allegations have been refuted by BARMM Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim and other key leaders from Mindanao. They affirmed that no coercion or harassment of local officials has taken place, with the recent gathering of BARMM mayors and leaders in Davao City described as peaceful and respectful, without any undue pressure on participants.
"My role as Special Assistant to the President is to ensure transparency, accountability, and integrity in all aspects of my duties," said Lagdameo. He further clarified that the allocation and use of BARMM funds adhere to legal and transparent processes to ensure the funds are used for the development and growth of the region.
Governor Tamayo, who also serves as the National President of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that his focus is on fostering partnerships for the country's advancement.
"We do not engage in any tactics that undermine democratic processes or the political freedom of local officials," Tamayo stated.
Both officials invited those making the allegations to present any evidence, rather than resorting to unfounded claims that detract from the administration's mission to serve the Filipino people.
Lagdameo and Tamayo reiterated their commitment to the government’s agenda of unity, progress, and prosperity for all Filipinos, including the people of BARMM.
