South Cotabato’s ‘Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo’ Inspires Candidates in Batangas

The transformative leadership of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has made impact beyond the province, with several candidates in Batangas adopting his Tama at Maayos na Serbisyo platform as a model for their own governance plans in the 2025 elections.

Gubernatorial candidate Walter “Kuya Kap” Ozaeta has openly expressed his admiration for South Cotabato’s success, pledging to implement similar programs in Batangas. In his campaign materials, he declared, “Sabay, sabay natin gawing posible ang imposible, mahal kong Batangas. Libreng serbisyo sa South Cotabato, gawin rin natin, Batangueño!” His platform highlights free hospitalization, free education, and free maintenance medicine—key initiatives successfully implemented under Governor Tamayo’s leadership.

Ozaeta, the official candidate of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), is up against strong contenders, including incumbent Mataasnakahoy Vice Mayor Jay Ilagan, former Batangas Governor and actress Vilma Santos-Recto, and former 1-CARE Party-list Representative and ex-Mayor of Padre Garcia Michael Angelo Rivera.

Meanwhile, Batangas City mayoralty candidate Clemente Berberabe has also centered his campaign around South Cotabato’s governance model, recognizing its effectiveness in delivering tangible results for the people.

“Lahat po ng ating sinusulong na libreng programa ay galing sa aking public service mentor, South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo Sucayan Tamayo Jr. Kaya huwag po kayo maniwala sa naninira na imposibleng magawa ito sa ating lungsod. Ayaw lang nila na magkaroon ng libreng programa para tayo ay patuloy na umasa sa gobyerno. Magkaisa tayo at magtulong-tulong para mangyari din ito sa ating bayan,” Berberabe stated.

Unlike traditional politicians, Berberabe champions transparency, good governance, and accessible public services, principles he has observed in South Cotabato. His commitment to free education, free healthcare, and anti-corruption initiatives has also drawn comparisons to the reform-driven leadership of Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

Berberabe is set to go head-to-head with Congressman Marvey Marino in the May 2025 Batangas City mayoral race.

With South Cotabato emerging as a benchmark for good governance, Governor Tamayo’s leadership is proving to be a source of inspiration for leaders beyond his province. South Cotabateños should take immense pride in the fact that their province is setting the gold standard for governance, with its effective programs now being recognized and emulated in other regions.
