South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo Jr. has expressed full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to conduct lifestyle checks on government officials, following the exposure of alleged irregularities in multi-billion peso flood control projects.
Tamayo described the move as necessary to curb worsening corruption in government. “Nararapat lang na ituloy ng Pangulo ang pag-lifestyle check sa mga opisyal ng Gobyerno,” he said.
The governor noted that anomalies are no longer limited to overpriced projects but now include “ghost projects,” which he called the most shameful form of theft from the people.
“I think nararapat dahil ibang klase na ngayon eh. Hindi lang yung overpricing ang lumabas—na masama na talaga—pero meron pang mga ghost project. Masyadong nakakahiya na isipin mo, harap-harapan na pagnanakaw yung ghost project,” Tamayo stressed.
To demonstrate his commitment to transparency, the governor declared his readiness to undergo a lifestyle check himself. “Handa akong sumailalim sa lifestyle check anytime,” he affirmed.
Known as the “Father of Cashierless Hospitals” for his healthcare reforms in South Cotabato, Tamayo highlighted that eradicating corruption is vital to ensure that public funds are directed to programs and services that truly benefit the people.
The lifestyle check order forms part of the Marcos administration’s intensified anti-corruption drive, spurred by reports of anomalies in flood control projects in Luzon and Metro Manila, and even in the Visayas.
