Supreme Court Upholds Tamayo Leadership in Partido Federal ng Pilipinas

The Supreme Court (SC) has affirmed the leadership of South Cotabato Governor Reynaldo S. Tamayo, Jr. as President of the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP), upholding the ruling of the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) that recognized the party’s 2022 Constitution and By-laws.

In a decision penned by Associate Justice Maria Filomena D. Singh, the SC ruled that the 2022 Constitution and By-laws are the official and controlling documents of the party, which provide for a three-year term for national officers. This confirmed that Tamayo, Secretary General Thompson Lantion, and General Counsel George Briones—who took office in September 2021—remained the valid officers until 2024.

The Court also declared the December 14, 2023 elections conducted by the faction of Leandro Verceles Jr. and Antonio Rodriguez Jr. invalid due to lack of quorum, proper notice, and authority.

In September 2024, during the party’s General Assembly, Governor Tamayo was re-elected as PFP National President, securing his mandate to lead the party until 2027.

The PFP is the political party that fielded President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. in the 2022 elections.
