At least, 200 senior citizens participated in
the “Walk for Life” at SMRAA Sports
Complex, City of Koronadal on October 1, 2018.
Said annual event in line with the week-long
celebration of the Elderly Filipino Week is in pursuit to the Presidential
Proclamation 470 declaring first week of October yearly as “Linggo ng Nakakatandang Filipino.”

As part of the Expanded Senior Citizens’ Act,
PhilHealth XII Regional Office Vice President, Dr. Miriam Grace G. Pamonag said
that PhilHealth covers their free health care services through government
facilities on a ward type of accommodation.
Effective October 2018, they too are entitled
to avail of the primary preventive care through accredited TSEKAP providers with free drugs and medicines for asthma, UTI,
pneumonia, gastroenteritis, hypertension and diabetes.
In his inspirational message, City of Koronadal
Mayor, Dr. Peter B. Miguel committed to hold the same activity with more
participating elderlies by November to be spearheaded by the same team from
DSWD XII, DOH XII and PhilHealth XII.
South Cotabato Provincial Governor, Atty. Daisy
P. Avance-Fuentes on the other hand, turned over the Php100,000.00 cash
incentives for centenarians who despite their conditions attended the same
occasion.
Said money from DSWD XII is the national
government’s commitment for senior citizens who made it until they turned 100.
Those who actively participated in various
activities during the program have likewise received incentives from DSWD XII
who took charge of the entire program. Their snacks and breakfast were provided
by PhilHealth.
This year’s theme is, “Kilalanin at Parangalan: Tagasulong ng Karapatan ng Nakakatanda Tungo
sa Lipunang Mapagkalinga” # (hanah g.
